Standards & Certification

USAR search dogs are certified for operational deployment by a combination of Civilian and Police Dog Section appointed assessors.

The standards were last reviewed and updated in 2009 in consultation with our key stakeholders, reflecting introduction of the National Training Programme, assessment best practice and the need for a standard which is realistic.

NZ currently has two levels of certification Operational and Advanced Operational.
